Why Are Forklift Gas Bottles Used Horizontally on Forklifts?
Forklift propane cylinders are designed to be mounted horizontally so the engine receives liquid propane rather than vapour gas. Unlike standard LPG bottles used for heating or cooking, forklift engines rely on a liquid withdrawal system, where the propane leaves the cylinder as a liquid and is then converted into vapour by the regulator before entering the engine. The horizontal mounting position ensures the internal dip tube inside the cylinder remains submerged in liquid propane, allowing the correct fuel flow and preventing the engine from drawing vapour prematurely. This design helps forklifts run more efficiently and consistently during operation.
