TIG Welding Without Filler Metal

For years, TIG welding aluminium has been one of the most technically demanding skills in welding, requiring a steady hand, lots of training, and the use of filler metal to enable a structural joint. The difficulty of breaking through the oxide layer, combined with aluminium’s heat sensitivity meant aluminium welding to a high standard remained out of reach for many.

GYS addressed this difficulty with the development of its patented GYS TIG Wizard technology. This is a synergy TIG mode that delivers a concentrated arc capable of clean, precise welds without filler metal. The first mode developed was “Wizard Alu”, which intelligently combines AC and DC currents to break through the oxide layer while delivering deep, focused penetration, creating more structurally sound welds with minimal distortion or cracking. The software makes aluminium TIG welding faster, better quality and accessible to less experienced users, while also reducing costs by eliminating the need for filler materials.

Continuous Innovation

Building on this breakthrough, GYS developed dedicated TIG Wizard modes for steel, stainless steel, copper and the Wizard Lab that allows the user to fully customise the weld cycle. Each new mode is the result of ongoing innovation from GYS’s R&D Centre in Laval, France, and a testament to GYS’s continued commitment to solving real-world welding challenges through innovation.

Wizard Alu Aero: The quietest aluminium synergy welding mode in the world, producing ultra-thin weld beads at a high frequency whilst reducing the harsh noise levels that can make TIG welding an uncomfortable process.

Wizard Stainless: Requires no finishing steps and produces a clean, oxide-free weld bead first time on stainless steel from 0.5 mm to 10 mm.

Wizard Lab: Take control of all the parameters of the welding cycle in developer mode, allowing you to weld dissimilar materials or explore the many possibilities without the need for filler material.

The Titanium TIG Range

GYS TIG Wizard is a standard feature on the Titanium AC/DC TIG Welding range. Manufactured in France, the Titanium range features compact single-phase 230A models, to powerful three-phase 400A machines that deliver an impressive 60% duty cycle at full power, even at 40°C.

All models feature an intuitive 7-inch screen with “Easy mode”, allowing welders to focus on their craft rather than their equipment, and benefit from IP23-rated chassis for use in the most demanding environments.
