Yes – we supply gas cylinders from BOC, Adam Gas, and Hobbyweld, but the way they’re provided works a little differently:
BOC gas cylinders:
You’ll need a BOC account to order. BOC normally charges a rental fee, either monthly or annually, for the cylinder.
Adam Gas and Hobbyweld cylinders:
These are completely rental-free. Instead, we take a refundable deposit when you first get the bottle.
When you need a refill, you simply swap your empty bottle for a full one and only pay for the gas.
If you return the bottle and take no further bottles, we refund your deposit in full.
If you’re not sure which option is best for you, give us a call on 01622 910075 and we can guide you based on your usage and needs.
Yes — you can collect directly from our Marden site.

No — our London site is a delivery depot only, and we do not offer customer collections there.
We provide delivery into London for Hobbyweld and Adam Gas cylinders.
If you need gas in London, call us on 01622 910075 to arrange a delivery to your home or workshop.
Yes — but it’s your responsibility to ensure it’s done safely. Cylinders should always be transported upright, secured to prevent movement, and ideally in a well-ventilated or open vehicle. If using a van or car, make sure there is adequate ventilation and never leave cylinders in a hot vehicle.
If you’re unsure about safe transport, we’re happy to offer guidance.
Gas bottles must be delivered by our own trained drivers for health and safety reasons—they cannot be sent through normal shipping companies.
Using our own delivery team ensures safe handling and compliance with transport regulations, but it also means we have to cover certain costs, including:
Staff wages
Vehicle insurance and maintenance
Charges such as congestion and low emission zone fees (for certain delivery areas)
These factors mean we’re unable to offer free delivery on gas orders. We always aim to keep delivery charges fair and competitive while ensuring your gas is delivered safely and on time.
Welding supplies: Mostly next working day delivery (subject to stock).
Large welding machines: Usually 1–3 working days.
Gas cylinders: Normally 1–3 working days, depending on your location and delivery schedule.
All delivery times are subject to stock availability. For urgent orders, call us on 01622 910075 to check current lead times.
Yes, we can deliver welding gases straight to your home or workshop, depending on the gas type and your location:
BOC cylinders: Delivery available in Kent only.
Hobbyweld and Adam Gas cylinders: Delivery available in Kent and London.
All deliveries are subject to our regular delivery schedule—call us on 01622 910075 to check the next available date for your area.
No — there’s no set limit to how many cylinders you can have.
However, keep in mind that BOC charges rental per cylinder, so holding multiple BOC bottles will increase your rental costs.
If you’re unsure what’s best for your usage, call us on 01622 910075 and we can help you work out the most cost-effective setup.
It’s not possible to give an exact answer because every welding machine, setup, and job is different. Factors like gas flow rate, material thickness, and welding technique all affect how quickly you use gas.
Over time, you’ll get a feel for how long a cylinder lasts with your own setup. Many welders learn to judge this through experience and by keeping an eye on their regulator’s pressure gauge.
Returning your empty cylinder is straightforward:
BOC cylinders: We can collect these if we are making a delivery to you in our Kent service area. If you’re not expecting a delivery soon, call us on 01622 910075 and we can advise on arranging a collection.
Adam Gas and Hobbyweld cylinders: We can collect these if we are making a delivery to you in Kent and London. If you need a separate collection, just call us on 01622 910075 and we’ll guide you through the process.
Other gas brands: We can also collect bottles from a range of different brands if we are making a delivery to you in the Kent and London areas. Call us on 01622 910075 to check availability and arrange collection.
For all returns, please make sure your cylinders are securely stored and easily accessible for our driver on the day of collection.
Disposable canisters: These can usually be taken to your local recycling centre or tip — check with your local authority for guidelines.
Hire or rent-free cylinders: Please contact us on 01622 910075 and we can arrange a return or collection.
Never throw gas cylinders in general waste or scrap — they must be handled safely.
Yes — charges depend on what type of bottle is being collected and your location.
Call us on 01622 910075 with the details, and we can confirm any costs before arranging collection.
BOC cylinders: If you lose a BOC bottle, BOC will charge you for the lost cylinder. You would need to contact BOC directly to arrange payment and resolve the issue.
Adam Gas and Hobbyweld cylinders: If you lose or damage the bottle, you will not be able to get your deposit back.
To avoid extra costs, always store your cylinders securely and handle them with care. If you’re unsure about safe storage, give us a call on 01622 910075 for advice.
Yes — if there’s a problem with your order, we’ll work to put it right quickly.
Missing parcels: We can arrange a replacement or a refund.
Faulty machines: While rare, we do offer replacements or refunds if a machine arrives faulty.
If you experience any issue, call us on 01622 910075 and we’ll resolve it as quickly as possible.
If you run out of gas mid-project, contact us on 01622 910075 as soon as possible.
In some cases, we can arrange same-day delivery — while it’s not guaranteed, we’ll always do our best to help you get back to work quickly.
You can also arrange to collect a replacement cylinder from our Marden site during opening hours.
Gas expands as temperature increases and vice versa. As the ambient temperature drops, it will result in a lower pressure reading. Hobbyweld cylinder pressure ratings are filled based on 15ºC.
Perform a check on your system for leaks, if a leak cannot be found it may be that you have your flow rate set too high. Make sure you turn the cylinder off by its valve when you are finished using it, as even a small leak can empty your cylinder surprisingly quickly.
Yes — we are agents for both Hobbyweld and Adam Gas, and we allow swaps between the two brands as well as size changes within each brand.
If there’s a difference in the deposit amount, this will either need to be refunded or paid at the time of the swap.
Call us on 01622 910075 to arrange the exchange and check stock availability.
Acetylene cylinders cost much more to manufacture. The gas cylinder contains a porous filling and the acetylene is dissolved in an acetone to produce the gas you withdraw. If we could make it cheaper, we honestly would.
No — propane and acetylene should never be mixed. They have different properties, uses, and safety requirements, and mixing them is dangerous. Always store and use each gas separately with the correct equipment for that gas type.
Yes — flashback arrestors are essential when using propane, acetylene, and oxygen for cutting or welding. They prevent flames from travelling back into the hoses and cylinders, protecting both you and your equipment. Always make sure they are correctly fitted and in good working condition.
This is standard practice for companies such as Flogas and Calor Gas.
The bottle charges are not refundable to us as agents, which means we cannot offer refunds when you return the bottles.
If you’re unsure about the terms before purchasing, call us on 01622 910075 and we’ll explain how the cylinder charge works.
No — Flogas bottles cannot be swapped for a different size.
This is because the cylinder charges are non-refundable, so it’s not possible for us to change sizes with Flogas once the bottle has been issued.
If you’re unsure which size to choose, call us on 01622 910075 before purchasing and we’ll help you select the right option.

No — we can’t directly exchange a Calor Gas bottle for a Flogas bottle.
However, we do offer a trade-in scheme where you can save 50% off the new bottle charge when you switch to Flogas with us. Terms and conditions apply.
Call 01622 910075 for full details of the trade-in offer.
Yes, this will need to be paid for each additional cylinder.
For Hobbyweld cylinders, an administration charge is applied when returning your cylinder for a refund.
Cylinders purchased on or after 1st February 2019: £10 + VAT for all cylinder types.
Cylinders purchased before this date:
Original – £10 + VAT
Plus – £10 + VAT
Ultra – £15 + VAT
Acetylene (all sizes) – £30 + VAT
These charges are set by Hobbyweld and deducted from your refund when returning a cylinder.
Unfortunately, we are unable to issue a refund without your original deposit form as proof of purchase.
This requirement is an additional security measure to help prevent the theft and fraudulent return of cylinders from private households.
To avoid losing your form, we recommend keeping it in a safe place or storing a digital copy for your records.
Never! Not only is this illegal, it can result in catastrophic accidents.
The gas you choose depends on your welding method and the material you’re working on.
TIG welding:
Always use 100% Argon. Pure Argon gives a stable arc and a clean finish on aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel.
MIG welding – Adam Gas bottles:
Mild steel:
95% Argon / 5% CO₂ – great for general fabrication and thinner material.
80% Argon / 20% CO₂ – better for thicker sections where more penetration is needed.
Stainless steel:
98% Argon / 2% CO₂ – clean welds with minimal oxidation.
Aluminium:
100% Argon – for oxide-free, high-quality welds.
MIG welding – Hobbyweld tri-gas mixes:
Hobbyweld 5 – 93% Argon / 5% CO₂ / 2% O₂
Ideal for thinner mild steel (up to around 7 mm) and also suitable for stainless steel MIG welding. Gives smooth arc stability, low spatter, and good weld penetration.
Hobbyweld 15 – 83% Argon / 15% CO₂ / 2% O₂
Better for thicker mild steel (up to around 18 mm). Provides more heat input for deeper fusion and less distortion.
If you’re unsure which option to choose, check your welding machine’s recommendations or get in touch—we’ll match the right gas to your project.
Yes, welding gas can be stored safely at home or in a garage, but it’s important to follow basic safety guidelines:
Keep cylinders upright and secured so they can’t fall over.
Store in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or open flames.
Avoid enclosed, unventilated spaces such as cupboards or small sheds with no airflow.
Protect from extreme temperatures—don’t store near heaters or in areas that get very hot in summer.
Keep valves closed and caps on when not in use.
Separate fuel gases and oxygen if storing both.
If you’re unsure about the best way to store your gas, give us a call on 01622 910075 and we’ll be happy to advise.

The right safety gear is essential for protecting yourself while welding. At a minimum, you should have:
Welding gloves – Protect your hands from heat, sparks, and UV light.
Welding helmet – Shields your eyes and face from the bright arc and UV radiation.
Protective clothing – Flame-resistant jacket or apron to protect your body and arms from sparks and heat.
Safety boots – Steel-toed, heat-resistant footwear to protect your feet.
If you’re not working with a fume extractor, outside, or in a well-ventilated area, you should also use an air-fed welding system to protect your lungs from welding fumes.
Other useful items include:
Ear protection – If you’re working in a noisy environment.
Safety glasses – For grinding or preparation work before and after welding.
Respiratory mask – For additional dust or fume protection when grinding, cutting, or working in confined spaces.

Welding machines: Most machines come with a manufacturer’s warranty of 1–5 years. Please check the product description for the exact warranty period.
Consumables: Items such as welding wire, tips, or discs are not covered by warranty once they have been used up.
Yes — we look after our customers. If a machine develops a fault, we can arrange to collect it for repair, depending on the warranty and service terms.
